Little confused as the article is short and packed with info. Could someone clarify because it says it was denied due to "timely" submission issues but then says Alito was waiting on response from Democrats...then something about blocking the electors...?

I am not understanding what then intent was - mail in ballot and/or electors...then if it was dismissed why wait on response from Dems?

Also, why can't both cases be heard? Wouldn't that set precedent ahead of big case?
