Good evening fellow pedes! I’ve been around since the escalator and have been winning ever since! I’m seeking some wisdom because I am struggling right now with my career.

I am a teacher with 5+ years of experience and currently studying a PhD in Teaching and Learning. I thought that getting a PhD was what I was supposed to do, but I feel like I am just wasting time and energy in this liver infected environment which hates white men (such as myself). They are all liberals at this institution and, as you could imagine, are very difficult to be around. I am currently undercover and they have no idea I’m a pede. I keep my head down and work hard. But this program is unrewarding and completely fucked from liberal craziness.

My quest for wisdom comes from this horrible feeling I have about my profession. I have a Masters in Education and a Bachelors in Psychology. I don’t know where I could go for a new career. Does anyone have any idea for shifting careers as a late 20s professional? Any advice or wisdom would be welcomed. If nothing comes from this, I am happy I was able to share my shitty situation with other pedes.

God bless.

I appreciate this comment. You are exactly right about partnering with a group or person that believes in authentic, genuine, student-centered education, and not education that diminishes White students while claiming love and peace for all. I need to start looking for another with the same values. Living in a deep blue city is probably adding to this problem...

We need GOOD teachers. Hang in there. After the communists are purged things will get better.

Private schools, are in high demand.

N aybe you could help people starting neighborhood home schooling ... many parents see their children's education as essential and have had it with the bullshit public schools.

You are exactly right, which is why it makes it hard having feelings of leaving the profession. We must have good teachers, it is imperative

I remember reading that most teachers become disillusioned and quit and move on after their first year when they realize how broken the system is.

IMHO you should future proof your career trajectory, if you still want to teach. Start a youtube channel, lecturing and teaching what you want to teach.

Attach a patreon for donations, and offer your services as a tutor/teacher outside of the failed government education machine.

That's where education is heading, and you can still get in ahead of the curve.

This is great advice! Even if the YouTube channel goes nowhere, it would be healthy to have a place to speak honestly and openly about my beliefs and hopes for teaching. I appreciate your comment

Thanks buddy. And thank you for being a teacher who apparently gives a shit.

We will get school choice and vouchers soon. Parents will get that money, instead of the government illiteracy factories.

When they have that money to fork out toward education, they will be looking for people like you to hire. Get a body of work established (this will be your professional portfolio).

You don't need (shouldn't need), the government's permission to offer your services. Period.

Very good advice and I agree about where education could be shifting

Elon has talked about open source education utilizing everything we've learned from mobile cell phone game serotonin sensory feedback stuff. Lots of money has been dumped in to those stupid games, market research, tricking kids in to becoming addicted.

He wants to use those methods for teaching.

That filthy immigrant came in and toppled the global space industry. The major legacy auto industries. He's about to own global telecom. He's going to put subways out of business with his tunneling company. In 5 years, every semi freight truck will be a drone and Elon will be a trillionaire several times over.

When he completely obliterates the global education system, it will be the simplest and easiest and least of his accomplishments. Despite having the biggest impact.

My humble advice is to finish the doctorate, after which your options will be much broader. I speak from personal experience - stick it out and play the game til you have the credential. Others may have more current advice, but whatever you decide, I wish you well.

I thank you for the advice. I am defending my Comps and I believe like 60% of what I wrote in those 100 pages.

That is tough. Perhaps you could conceive of a dissertation topic that would have meaning to you but still be approved. You would have power to impact the field for the better with the Ph.D. Easier said than done, to be sure.

I should be more reflective of my dissertation topic, because it isn't too late just yet. Thank you for the advice

This is an excellent point. It's tough being in the trenches with no ally. I wish you well with joining this career, it is incredibly rewarding and such a joy

I'm a teacher myself, and education needs us here. I would never want to leave my kids without at least one same voice. I'm not overt or in their face about it, I just present them with reason, I teach them how to think, not what to think, the rest will fall in place. If I just reach a few, it's better than none at all and I've done my part. Don't abandon us on the front lines, fren, join us!

Plus, if you're going for a doctorate, you could get into a principal or superintendent role and really have a positive impact!

I really appreciate you and your comment. You are exactly right about our purpose and passion for supporting students. I do see a principal spot in my future, but this Doc program is suffocating!

Hey fren - thanks for sharing.

Living "undercover" is such a draining experience. I can relate from my 10+ years in the very left-leaning startup world. I was treated like an eccentric uncle anytime I left my mask slip too far.

I know this doesn't map onto your experience because you're in academia, but one of my oldest friends (white male) is a substitute teacher working towards getting a full-time posting.

Since his masters, he's been acting like every new step along his process is supposed to be the one that makes it all worth it, and it never is. He's surrounded by the woke/nanny zombie horde and he hates it... but he's a very duty-bound individual and thinks if he just works hard enough he will reap the rewards of all the effort he's been putting in.

I got the feeling he was just too scared/ashamed to try something new. The sunk-cost fallacy was at play, as was the fear of the unknown.

In his case, when he asked me a similar question to yours - I suggested he try and find a way into the private school system or start his own tutoring business. (Again, since you have a more academic trajectory I don't think those suggestions necessarily apply to you - I'm just sharing since there are some similarities.)

I always told him that if it was already this bad... why would it get better later? The poison is in the drinking water. It seems you've had a similar realization.

In terms of moving forward maybe we could start here:

What would you be doing after your PhD? Would you have a research role or would you move into policy etc. ? Aside from the Leftist-BS cancer, is there something deeper pulling you towards completion other than the sunk-cost fallacy?

Do you have any competencies/skills you could monetize? Or any areas you've always wanted to explore and never did?

I have been mulling over your comment. I am very thankful and appreciative for your post and time in responding. I feel for your friend. The system has many openings and opportunities, but it is not the pretty red bow that they put on the position. I wish your friend great luck with continuing that path! I appreciate your motivation to make me think further about the future. I can't complain about spilled milk, I need to take action and be thoughtful for the future. The think with the PhD is that I do want to use that to help me enter educational leadership to provide better learning environments for more students than I could as a sole teacher. So all the research and policy work is not my interest, nor what I want to do in the future. I have been blessed that I have my education paid for, hard work at the university taking on multiple roles, so I have no sunk-cost fallacy. I have a lack of desire and happiness problem. It isn't fulfilling as I had hoped. I have a strong personality and very engaging with others. I always wanted to do something in the corporate sector and I always knew I would be great in sales and communication. It just seems so far off to leave my current talents and take a step away in hopes of something better. One in the hand type of thing.

I feel your pain I just finished my program and now I’m wondering why I’m going into the field and I’m not looking forward to it at all...

1
TheRonDon [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

What is your area of expertise in research?

2
Wishiwastrumpswife 2 points ago +2 / -0

Elem Edu and I’m an English major...my program was very liberal. Now I’m going into the field and I’m going to be forced to do virtual instruction. I actually graduated today, but you’d think I’d be more excited about it.

Congratulations! That is an amazing accomplishment! Celebrate your hard work

I have a friend who went into corporate training and while it didn’t pay well at first, he makes six figures now(5 years employed). The job entails teaching details about new software for the sales team. I’m sure there’s tons of various jobs that fall under something similar.

Thank you for the advice. I will look into this

You’ll have value as a teacher as long as Trump gets a chance to overhaul the education system. Otherwise you could try consulting or start doing a creative project on the side like streaming or podcasting and see where it leads.

If I had kids, especially under 8, I would be looking online for someone who could teach them the actual facts that they need in a way that keeps them compelled to continue learning. If I were really ambitious, I would put together a factual, logical and patriotic curriculum for online learning as an alternative to public school classes on Zoom. Start an affordable online academy for homeschool that meets the government’s requirements for accreditation but actually goes much further by developing capable adults upon graduation.

This is fantastic advice. I wouldn't have even thought to utilize my skills and talents to do specialized support for families. Goes to show how close-minded and robot-like the system is in itself

I had an attorney tell me once that 2 years of law school on top of a Bachelors would cost a plenty, but that it could be paid off in the first year or two of practice. If I would have been younger, I would seriously have considered it. We need good honest attorneys as bad or worse than we need good teachers. Good luck. MAGA & KAG

1
TheRonDon [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Thank you for the comment. Good attorneys are definitely in need for our beloved country. MAGA

2
BS4thewin 2 points ago +2 / -0

In order to rid the public system of liberal ideology and influence, strong conservative education lawyers will be necessary. Understanding the issues aforehand and firsthand within education would be especially beneficial to brace up against the liberal union education lawyers and politicians. Again, Good luck. MAGA

Thank you. I appreciate your advice on advocacy. I don't need to follow the system blindly and I can be a voice for the voiceless

I have to say this, in highschool, I didn't learn jack about history except names and dates. When I learned REAL history? In ART HISTORY in college! Why? Because the explanation of the CONTEXT, the WHY of each painting! If you go forward, know that your students NEED to know the WHY, the CONTEXT. THAT is the only thing that will keep history from repeating. Thank you, rant over. PS, I love the youtube channel idea.

Hit the nail on the head. So many problems in the current system. Thank you for your comment
