Trump is surrounded by knife wielding "republicans" he can't trust - everywhere. I'm guessing he knows he needs 100% LOYAL people defending him. As good as Cruz has been in the last four years, I don't know that Trump will ever forget what Ted did to him in 2016 at the Republican nomination Convention, when Cruz wouldn't back Trump when he had already lost to him and this was in front of the entire convention crowd in that packed arena, and Trump had given him a speaking platform - that was a stab in the back. I frankly don't blame Trump not wanting to be put in that position again. Lou Dobbs should understand that!!
