I told them get off gmail, stop using Google. I went to Protonmail and DDG and they all laughed at me.
Forget the fact that I deal with big data every day, forget that I've been in info systems for 30 years... forget that they have no idea how powerful metadata is, they all said "I have nothing to hide", "why does it matter that its free", "Google's motto is don't be evil".

I have been through the same thing. I freaked out when my mom had tens of thousands of pictures on Picasa which got bought out by Google and they went to a Google account. I finally got her two switch to a different program but its too late.
