Military guys: I hope y'all have a plan to preserve the cultural and historical information on those servers. It would be a shame to let these Chinese shills destroy 2 entire decades of American culture.

TheCremaster [S] 84 points ago +85 / -1

I dont have any plans of attacking them. Just pointing out that they looks more like uniformed combatants than civilians.

57
emperorbma 57 points ago +58 / -1

Not you. I know Patriots monitor these boards. I'm talking to them.

41
TheCremaster [S] 41 points ago +41 / -0

I literally heard an audible shriveling sound from my nether regions when you insinuated I wasnt a patriot. Stepped in the scale and was 1/2 pound lighter than this morning. 😣

22
emperorbma 22 points ago +28 / -6

Sorry, I meant to say "patriots running the operations" but I thought of it too late. Didn't mean to insinuate you weren't.

I think he's refering to "military guys" like the ones in that supposed server raid in Germany. That's how I read it, and I just called out a glowie a few minutes ago.

Some stuff would be lost, but be honest now, we could do without the last two decades of American culture.

5
emperorbma 5 points ago +6 / -1

For some of us this was our entertainment for years. Think of what would happen if we deleted the 1960s. It's a major hole in our history that's going to leave people disenfranchised.

4
elodrian 4 points ago +6 / -2

The 1960's was a far more homogeneous culture than present-day America. The schisms had really just begun to form between WASPs, negroes, and leftists, but there were still just a handful of broadcast television channels and everyone watched the same TV shows and saw the same news broadcasts. People had differing opinions on the Vietnam War, but everyone at least agreed that the Vietnam War was happening. To delete a decade of cultural products from the 1960's is to delete a decade of American history.

2000-2020 though? Even a person who consumes an unhealthy amount of YouTube content doesn't consume one percent of one percent of what gets uploaded daily. There's no moon landing on YouTube. No Kennedy assassination. There's no YouTube Princess Diana assassination or 9/11. The closest thing to a universal cultural touchstone which YouTube has gestated so far is Cenk Uyger's 2016 election night meltdown. You could delete the last twenty years of YouTube data and most people wouldn't even agree on what was missing. American history would not be lost.

2
emperorbma 2 points ago +3 / -1

So entertainment isn't of value eh? I guess I shouldn't also be sad that Disney will be putting all of your historical favorites like "Gone With The Wind," "It's A Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Carol" into their vaults over in China forever? Also feeding you crappy remakes with an all black cast that champions social justice so they can charge you for a defective remake.

Que Sera Sera

3
elodrian 3 points ago +3 / -0

If you jumped back in time to 1960, selected twenty random people, and asked them whether or not they had seen "Gone with the Wind", "It's a Wonderful Life", and "A Christmas Carol", I expect you would find a consensus that everyone had seen those films. Those films were a touchstone which all members of the society could reference. They gave people a common language. They were part of the culture, part of the history. They are relevant to American history.

Can you think of a single example of a YouTube channel, or a YouTube video even, which has that kind of breadth? Most books sell very few copies. (Pareto distribution) I'm confident that there were books published in 1950 which were read by 0.001% of the US population, discussed only among limited circles, and had no cultural impact whatsoever. Such books likely no longer exist (or are no longer read if they do). The "loss" of these books doesn't bother anyone, because no one read them anyway. Have you read "Joined at the Heart : The Transformation of the American Family"? Has anyone? And that's written by a US Vice President!

I would not say that entertainment is of no value. What I would say is that entertainment is so fragmented, and we are so bereft of a "mainstream American culture" that entertainment products cannot be considered part of American history or American culture the way they were in the 1960's. Most products are relevant to a sub-culture at best.

My question about universally relevant YouTube videos wasn't rhetorical, either; I'm genuinely curious if you can think of an example. I can't.

1
emperorbma 1 point ago +1 / -0

I have a friend who didn't see Mary Poppins so I don't know if we can be sure everything is 100% but it's probably more penetration than what we have now.

A fair point. I don't think there's much the same as the Moon Landing or Pearl Harbor here, at least. But what it does impact is the nostalgic experiences that an entire generation will be able to draw from watching their favorite content creators. Some might see that as an acceptable loss, but it is still tragic and a little upsetting I think.

I don't see it as business decisions. More like these were deep state assets whose ultimate controllers gave directives. They are threatened so much that they are willing to destroy assets in the hopes it took down Trump. A few billion dollars is nothing compared to what is at stake for them including their own necks.

My question is, was it YouTube or Google/alphabet. Those are separate entities. If it is Google, watch them to ban things from the play store like dlive, rumble, parler, and the Trump app

10
reefacts 10 points ago +10 / -0 (edited)

Alphabet owns Google and Youtube. Further, any app that is on the play store or apple store had to agree to censorship conditions (terms & conditions) to even be allowed on these stores at all. Platforms who have refused these terms have been removed and banned from these stores.

4
Dride 4 points ago +4 / -0

I'm no disagreeing, but I am looking at dlive, rumble, and parler on my phone right now. I should have been more specific as to whether the statement came down from high, or straight from the YouTube team with no direct guidance, for whatever reason. Point is, if they have cracks in their own grouping, pressure will show that, and that crack is where to strike.

3
reefacts 3 points ago +3 / -0

They exist on the store because they have agreed to Google & Apples terms. If they hadn't, or if they weren't following these terms, they would not be listed on these stores.

The statement came from the DNC, not Alphabet.

11
MAGA_Flocka_Flame 11 points ago +11 / -0

“We also disallow content alleging widespread fraud or errors changed the outcome of a historical U.S. Presidential election. However in some cases, that has meant allowing controversial views on the outcome or process of counting votes of a current election as election officials have worked to finalize counts.

If there isn’t any fraud or errors there shouldn’t be any controversy on how you count the votes

4
MAGA_4EVER 4 points ago +4 / -0

They are literally suppressing history. Fraud/errors have changed the outcome of at least 2 presidential elections in the US in the past.

And im sure they've changed the results of some smaller elections as well.

They art basically suppressing history by stifling speech and censoring any opposing talks about the election, also saying scotus and constitution doesn't matter among other illegalities. They also mention they do or will do this across the globe.

" And as always, we'll apply learning from this election to our ongoing efforts to protect the integrity of elections around the world."

Not only are these treasonous bastards a security risk but they are outright trying to put in an un-elected man into the presidency. Effectively a coup and co conspirators.

TLDR; They are enemy combatants and should be terminated.

Because it's a US corp, if they are caight subverting the US we just seize their assets. If they were in a foreign country and assisting an enemy, it would be a military target for capture.

Google and YouTube are both subsidiaries of Alphabet, Inc

Hypothetically first target in an insurgency should be lines of communication. So yea FB YT and Twitter would naturally get the first attention. Thermite grenades on their servers, is the recommended method for quickly destroying data farms.
