Lack of sacrifice, temperance and truth are what make weak men. The death and destruction that war (often unnecessarily) brings isn’t a prerequisite for strong men. The last four years have made us all weaker men using that logic.

I think war combines all of those things; the death and destruction is what drives those things home. I don't think anyone who has argued that war is a great "instructor" is advocating for war to retrain humans, just arguing that it is what it is. "Adversity is the best teacher."

Agreed, I think adversity is the perfect word. And if we stand up for what is right, we’ll never be short on adversity.
