Not a constitutional or Supreme Court law expert but I believe in all other courts if the defendant doesn't respond then relief may be awarded to the plaintiff automatically.

Im pretty sure it would then just go to trial. I think the answer part is to see if the answer is enough to prevent even having a trial.
