I work with a guy from China. He's definitely biased in favor of the CCP but it's interesting to hear his perspective. He's pretty based culturally and laughs at the stupid western Baizuo (Chinese word for sjws).
He said the government tried to integrate Uighurs, gave them affirmative actions programs and treated them with kid gloves for a long time. But they behaved like Muslims in Europe: they'd move to Eastern Chinese cities for the better economy then commit crimes/terrorism/struggle snuggle gangs. In Xinjiang there was an Islamist separatist movement that was carrying out attacks on police/government buildings. A lot of this stuff doesn't get reported in Western media. The crackdown started a few years ago after a series of particularly bad terrorist attacks and regular Chinese citizens were getting pissed off and demanding the government do something about it.
Dunno if it's true but that's what he told me. I'm inclined to believe it because western media loves to portray muslims as innocent victims that dindu nuffin even when they're OBVIOUSLY the aggressors.

Yeah idk. If you study Muhammad's deeds and teachings you'll quickly see the Islamists and terrorists are closer to true Islam than the moderates.
As much as I dislike Islam as a religion I don't think the government should be able to throw you in prison MERELY for having the wrong beliefs.
There must be some middle ground between Europe's (lack of) response and China's.
