"one (such as a professional person or organization) that is not a party to a particular litigation but that is permitted by the court to advise it in respect to some matter of law that directly affects the case in question"
"entity who has been allowed by the court to plead or make submissions but who, however, is not directly involved in the action."
Look at the end of the document, Additional Counsel part
Is this different then actually joining the lawsuit?
the states other than Texas are AMICI CURIAE:
"one (such as a professional person or organization) that is not a party to a particular litigation but that is permitted by the court to advise it in respect to some matter of law that directly affects the case in question"
"entity who has been allowed by the court to plead or make submissions but who, however, is not directly involved in the action."
Interesting. Does this lessen the impact vs them actually joining as a plaintiff (sorry the legalese goes over my head lol)?
Other states can also present evidence and arguments, but they cannot dismiss. Texas is leading, other states supporting the claim.
