He actually lost the popular vote. But our Conservative Party of Canada ran a terrible candidate. Had they selected Maxime Bernier as leader a couple years back I think he would be our current PM. Now he is in no mans land having created his own party.
I think our new Conservative Party leader Erin O'Toole has a solid chance next time.

It's not because of Dominion though. Canada uses paper ballots for FEDERAL elections. They use Dominion for Province/local though.
