The Vatican is a sovereign Nation if you will. They usually call it a City/State. There are very limited circumstances but he has what is known as Head of State immunity. I t would be extremely difficult. I believe it was the 1929 Lateran Treaty that separated it from Italy. If my memory serves me correct. But I cannot swear to it. These days I doubt any Country would do it anyway. But there is always a first time for everything.
