Thank you for what you do for this country. Planning on enlisting soon. I'm an ex liberal who used to be 310 lbs and am now 255 lbs. Any tips for fitness to get me ready for the military? Thank you for reading.

Start running and quit smoking for now if you do. Study thibgs related to your branch of service such as rank structure, phonetic alphabet, and so on.
This exactly. I would add that you look up what the requirements you need to pass the PT test and start working towards those goals. Remember it is not all about the running. You have to do pullups, pushups, situps, etc to finish bootcamp. Find out how many you need to do and get at it. During bootcamp, I saw far more people fail at pullups than running.
I see you mentioned pull-ups fren, you wanna tell him what crayons taste best now or let him learn it on his own. 😉
LOL not a crayon eater, close though. Was a corpsman and spent time with them..
Ah yes, Obama mentioned you guys. "The Corpse Man."
Yeah that is me and mine. Was one of the more cringeworthy things I heard that prick say. He was an imbecile and the only reason he was considered smart, is because the news media constantly told us how smart he was.
I about fell outta my chair when that faggot said that.
For us civs - can you elaborate?
Crayon eaters = marines usually, sometimes soldiers but mostly just refers to jarheads. I was a Navy corpsman (medic) and took care of jarheads.
gotit! ty!
Marines
👍
Thank you for the advice. Been working on the pullups but I still cant seem to get a full pull up at the moment. I will keep training.

This should help
Got it thanks. Getting started on that right away.
keep losing weight, emphasize cardio, runs, rucking, etc
Thanks. Is there a distance I'm supposed to be able to run on average? Or is it a distance with time?
this is what the army's using now as a fitness test: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Combat_Fitness_Test
there's a timed 2-mile run. if you want to improve your running times, though, you'll want to log longer distances in training (i.e., aerobic base building)
if you want a specific program, check out Tactical Barbell (volume 2 - conditioning - base building program).
Awesome! Thanks! Gonna start applying these to my workout immediately.
Never been to basic but I have heard the morning runs can be pretty long. I would say build up to handle 5 miles without stopping.
Ah alright. I'll work on being able to at least do that. Can currently handle about 1.5 miles non stop but I am slower than a turtle.
Add a small increment each week. 1/2 mile or so. You will get there.
Work your way up to 3 miles, 7 min/mile pace, that'll get you in the door.
Keto...and intermittent fasting.
Did the intermittent fasting which got me to 250. Been planning on trying the keto for a while but it's a bit confusing to me.
Eat meat. Pretty simple.
I found 40%healthy fats, 20% protein, 30% Veges, 10% whole grain carbs. But basically a Mediterranean Diet with a 14 hr fast each day (5pm to 9am). The fast brings on Ketosis anyway. Working out towards the end of the fast maximises the natural increase in HGH also caused by the fasting.
Less than 20g of carbs/day. Nothing hard about it.
This. I shredded weight on keto and it totally changed the way I eat and approach food. No sugar, under 30-40g of carbs a day (to start, and yes you have to count) and then foods high in fat and lots of protein. There are tons of good recipes but if you can cook for yourself then a cheeseburger with egg and bacon on lettuce for a salad is one of my go to’s. That’s my quick rundown at 3:30 in the am lol good luck buddy and don’t give up.
They don’t call it the ‘egg and bacon’ for nothing 😁
Was thinking either air force or marines not sure what I mentally will qualify for though so I'm preparing my body primarily.
Learn to run, learn to love to run. Ohh and practice running.
I'm not joking, simply "going for a run" will not help. You need to practice technique and form. Since you're already a bigger guy, this will be harder for you than others.
No one will show you how do do this in basic. This will be up to you and I wish someone would have told me this before I joined.
Wow. Alright. Yeah running is my current weakest point I can go 1.5 miles non stop but I'm seriously slow at it.
If you learn to run before basic, it will be a breeze.
If you don't and go to basic without the ability to run well as it will be miserable
Not a military guy but I would say run, forrest run. Pushups, situps and pull-ups. Good job so far. Good luck.
Thank you. Will do.
Thank you for the advice. I'll try to still be able to do the current requirement. Gotta be prepared and as healthy as possible.
Get that weight done. Try intermittent fasting, increase from 12 hrs to 14hrs etc to eventually doing 24hrs+. Each full day you fast you can shed 1lbs no problem. Just make sure your drinking some salt water(to taste) during the 24hr+ fasting, as you piss and sweat salt
It was intermittent fasting that got me to 250. Never tried going passed the 16/8 rule though. I could give a full day a try.
Push it to 2-3-4 days, will lose extra weight with the added benefit of no loose skin at the end. Called autophagy.
Keto, no sugars and no carbs.
And watch out for fruit as well ...
Cardio, general PT and eat a healthy diet. Start fasting to lean yourself down.
If you can I would suggest you learn the basics of shooting, tactics, communication, medical and land navigation.
As for the general fuckery inside, be the grey man, volunteer for the shit jobs and help others accordingly.
Education, knowledge, leadership, are key if you want to do the cool kid stuff. Nobody likes people who think they are special.
Always looking forward to learning something new. Since I'm in cali it's going to be a bit difficult to learn the basics of shooting. Land nav is new how would I get started on that? Medical as in basic medecine?
Learn basics of reloading, sight alignment, trigger pull, shit you can do in your home.
Learn to use a compass, count your paces and read a topographic map etc. there are videos on YT I’m sure.
Basic medical, gun shot wound treatment, how the body reacts to over stimulation, protecting your joints, feet, back etc.

Thank You. Thankfully I have been level headed. Only reason I created the username that way is because of the beginning of this whole covid nonsense. Lost my job, my home, and all my savings. I was mostly in a dark place because of the business purge these governors are doing
Target weight depends on your BMI index (which is based on height age etc) - what do you need to get down to?
Honestly, may not be a good idea to do it. If Trump can't pull this off. Biden will send you to Syria.
Run. A lot. 2 miles everyday.
And get good running shoes that fit.
Lots of PT - Run, pushups, situps, pullups. Lots of sleep Drop the carbs Thanks for choosing to serve!
I understand the ask, but let me ask you this. Age? What branch of service and have you thought about what MOS (“job”) do you want in the service? What are your plans for after you separate, is there a job you want to achieve as a civilian?
25 years. Either marines, air force, or navy (still deciding) was gonna go after the jobs that one would normally go to trade school for like lineman, electrician, or engineering. After the military I had actually been planning on saving up to start my own business. The trade jobs is mostly to have a viable income after service.
start practicing this phrase: "more PT drill sergeant, more PT!"
you gotta sayit like yah mean it
Run, push ups, sit ups and ruck a lot. The army has changed things up a little since I got out in 2017 but physical fitness will get you far. Find a job that you might like. Early military life is not much more than follow orders. Be at the right place,at the right time, in the proper uniform and you will be fine.
It begins in the mind. Make the decision.
Cut the carbs. Cut the seed oils. Cut out foods high in oxalic acids. Up your animal protein/fat intake. Lift weights Cardio.
HOKA ONE ONE CLIFTON 7s running shoes are the best for pounding those extra miles you shouldnt.
If you're really suicidal try out for the SEAL team.
Run, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups. Do them like mad.
