Plato wanted the children of the politician class to be raised outside of their families to prevent nepotism and this BSery. The Republic is a fun authoritarian thought experiment, but damn is it right sometimes.
Living around and interacting with them in DC (people would fly there from other liberal cities for work/conferences) through work or leisure I came to some conclusions:
Their families did indeed mistreat/abuse non-white people for profit
They consciously or unconsciously made it a point to spread the blame to all white people to hide what they did.
The most vehemently 'anti-racist' rich white people come from these families
When I lived in DC I got the "Do you know who my father is" from 20 - 30 something year olds trying to cut in line to the bar.
