To be fair, there are plenty of officials with kids who are betraying our country as well. Brian Kemp, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Obama (supposedly), Gavin Newsom, Pat Toomey, etc. The popular thought is that people with kids are trying to leave behind a better future while childless officials have nothing to lose and don't care so they get what they can while they can. The corruption is present regardless of having kids, I believe. In fact, having a family also presents another point of attack for your enemies so they threaten and even kill at times to get their message across. Families are great and can steel your resolve, don't get me wrong, but can be used as leverage against someone just as easily. Not everyone will put America first if it means endangering their own families. In fact, some are more bold because they are on their own and free to act accordingly.
