This reminds me of Douglas Coupland (of "Generation X - Tales for an Accelerated Culture" fame) novels. Yeah, probably a Canadian cuck but he got a lot of things right back in the 90s. In one of his stories the protagonist realizes Boomers actually believe what's on TV, commercials etc. A concept so alien to even those born decades ago - they don't even think it's real. But it is - and it explains a lot.
The sad part is... (the mainstream) media has always been like that - I grew up both in the (former) Free World and behind the Iron Curtain and one thing that was constant was bullshit of the mainstream media - we just knew what they were telling us was their story, nothing more. Unfortunately my generation just learned to "zone out" like we can just live around it. At the Dawn of the Internet Era we somehow felt we could just drive around that old boulder... should've just blasted it right off the road!
