I actually ran into a related issue with a Brother printer I’ve got.
Needed to send a voided check back to our controller so I tried to scan and email it. The printer froze and gave a nondescript error message. I had to pull/re plug the power cord to get it to come back on.
When the same thing kept happening I looked up the error and kept finding Brother documentation about it being related to a mechanical malfunction.
Finally I found a footnote at the bottom of a help article that said in addition to mechanical issues it could be from trying to scan a protected item such as cash or a check.
Apparently brother was too cheap to spring for a separate error code and threw it in with mechanical problems.
Seems logical
Yes.
Counterfeiting is a separate crime.
Send monopoly money
Unfortunately Xerox has engineered their copiers to not allow copies of money. But you could get movie prop money and mail them a pallet.
