The amount of leeway that China has been given over the past 30+ years would have never occurred during the Cold War with the Soviets. We need to start treating China the same.

I'd say even more strictly than we treated Russia, as advances in technology over the last 20+ years mean that foreign countries have even more capacity to spy on us than before.

I want to crush China so brutally under crippling sanctions that they beg for our soy beans. Make an example of them that will be remembered for generations to come.

There should be a unified global response to sanctions. No people in or out (though their own citizens can go back but not come out again if they do), absolutely no tourism. No non-essential trade in or out (we don't need their plastic crap), with sky-high tariffs on essential trade to encourage divestment back to the West. All China-owned infrastructure and assets seized, with no further investments allowed. Massive tariffs placed on any country that continues to act like China isn't persona non grata.

The Great Wall(ing in) of China.

The Soviets were ideological and military competitors of ours. Worthy of the caution and respect we gave them.

China is a parasite.

It's the failure of liberalism/neoconservativism. Both schools of thought taught us that China would eventually become more like the rest of the world if they just helped them become a stakeholder in it. In fact, they made the rest of the world more like them.
