Feels good, doesn't it?

Trumpican [S] 93 points ago +93 / -0

The more I talk about it and share with my network, the better I feel, like a fucking rush of adrenaline. I might go build a house.

The house is already built. You just have to reveal it nail-by-nail. :)

Is there any way you could share what services you switched to? I would like to also leave Google forever.

Trumpican [S] 46 points ago +46 / -0

searching i use duck duck go of course

browser is brave with it on full shields, all social media integration turned off and use privacy mode full time except for banking etc. I also use virtual machines to have multiple "personalities" that make it harder to nail me down as one person. each VM has a unique VPN

email i use proton mostly, with 5 custom domains

video are now through hooktube, bitchute or rumble

my work gives me an apple device that is not tied to icloud

no tv subscriptions

the LAST thing I need to shed is Amazon Prime, but I got so much money invested in videos that I purchased. Also use amazon delivery during covid, but want to shop locally with cash more again soon

You should write another post with all of these details in it. Help others find the light.

12
Trumpican [S] 12 points ago +12 / -0

Posts like that hardly gain any traction, but maybe after Christmas a well written one can. no point going through a ton of effort for 20 folks to click on it

Ture, but hopefully you'll gain a sticky from it. I've been lazy in my transfer, but I really need to get serious about it.

You have inspired me Sir.

Install Playon Desktop and you can record all those movies (yes, from Amazon) to your PC then use PlayOn as a media server to stream them to your TV over your home network. Roku has a PlayOn app that simplifies the process as I am sure most other platforms do as well.

then all ya gotta do is rent the movies (instead of buy) and life is cheaper and easier. In Minecraft, of course.

Do you happen to know any ways to watch Bitchute or Rumble on a smart TV? The only reason I've used YouTube as long as what I have is because of the screencast feature. Hell, I will buy whatever just to get rid of fucking YouTube... but I can't watch on my phone all day and don't want to get up and select a new video after each one.

3
MAGA_NIGGA_2020 3 points ago +3 / -0

Just a day hike to Myrtle Point via Alum Cave Trail. I kept a good pace and had good baselayers which kept me warm enough. The summit was pretty chilly though with about a foot and a half of snow.

I thought about doing the same, but instead of deleting after I migrated to ProtonMail, I left the account active for any risky/spammy account registrations. Google pays to process a few hundred spam emails a week, and the data is useless to them because it's not my actual email, and I use Brave/DDG

26
Trumpican [S] 26 points ago +26 / -0

log into google and you can see all your meta data nd historical data. that data is worth way more than you think to google

also their spam filter costs them barely anything to run in the grand scheme of things. they will continue to sell your data as if you are an active user and continue to profit off of you

Obligatory followup, what email provider do you guys use? Goto seems to be protonmail, but anything else?

3
Trumpican [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

proton mail is good for encryption purposes, but it can't protect from yourself and bad behaviors. the biggest risk with proton mail (or anyone) is every sender and recipient can be tied to your account, either through your meta data or through all your peers that sent or received emails to/from you

i use 5 custom email domains and multiple user accounts per domain and spread all my email activity across all accounts specifically by purpose or profile

i then archive locally and then delete all emails regularly, if its financial I also print it and file it away

27
Trumpican [S] 27 points ago +27 / -0

proton mail. I have a a few custom domains names with proton. it is not the best, but it is pretty decent

6
KeepingAmericaGreat 6 points ago +6 / -0

I'm concerned this is by far the most popular option. Almost too good to be true, especially when other options are considered immensely inadequate.

5
Trumpican [S] 5 points ago +5 / -0

Proton mail will not offer that much security if you continue to use it like you would gmail. your address book or history of senders and recipients is sometimes the motherload of data

this is why i use 5 custom domains and a ton of addresses to split up my data

3
KeepingAmericaGreat 3 points ago +3 / -0

That makes sense. It seems like you have to somehow filter every single email from previous addresses into a safe space, then sanitize it before reading.

Is that how it works? How do you do affectively do that as a normal person (with daily emails from various, unknown senders)?

2
Trumpican [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I compartmentalize my emails in several ways, but mostly in the manner, if this goes south, do I care if these organizations etc know about each other?

4

I prefer ProtonMail for the Zero-knowledge principle of their mailboxes. You set a decryption passcode and even if they get subpoenaed, they have no way of decrypting the information without your passcode.

12
Trumpican [S] 12 points ago +12 / -0

it took a ton of effort and at times, I thought I would just say fuck it and stay with at least gmail, but I kept at it, just worked it each month, little by little, and then once you go a month with no official emails, you start realizing how close you really are

12
kommisar6 12 points ago +12 / -0

Now do facebook and twitter...

22
Trumpican [S] 22 points ago +22 / -0

luckily never had neither, this was pretty much it, but it was big, I had youtube, music, millions of emails and used to have thousands of business contacts in my address book. pretty much google knew everything about me. Dang, I got a fucking rush right now as I realize this is DONE!

11
SomeGuyOnTheInternet 11 points ago +11 / -0

If it wasn't for youtube I'd be completely google free too

11
WeebForTrump 11 points ago +11 / -0

The reason why Youtube is the hardest to switch from is because of the creators there, not because of the platform. If creators leave, youtube dies.

1
trump_is_lord 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm no expert tbh. From what I hear/read, Firefox is fine as well (much better than Google Chrome). I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and Brave, and I ultimately prefer Brave because it blocks trackers and ads without the need for extensions. Also, you collect BAT (Brave cryptocurrency) by viewing privacy-respecting ads. However, in the end, just use the browser you like best :)

I just switched to brave for browser. Previously used waterfox. Both are good options though.

7
LeftistsAreInsane 7 points ago +7 / -0

I use Brave as a browser with Waterfox as a backup for compatibility issues. For searches I use Qwant because DuckDuckGo donates to leftist organization, but so far, I can't say that I've seen DuckDuckGo censor or alter its search results.

BitChute is alright for video hosting. Rumble is a little cleaner and easier to monetize.

3

They don't even store your searches on duvkduckgo, that's why they don't know how many users they have, themselves. I don't think what you said is true. They do give you the same search access as Google but without curating the results or saving your information.

Funny choice of words. You can root your Samsung and install a custom de-googled rom. I know nothing about the a51, but if it is fairly common, I'm sure there's a rom for it. Depends on your comfort level with doing these types of things with your phone and ability to deal with the possibility of bricking your phone. I always waited for the warranty to run out before rooting since it voids the warranty in most cases. Plenty of info available online.
