I am grossly simplifying Plato here, but I like his boat analogy. Pretend you have 100 people that are all going on a long journey together on a ship. None of them have ever been on a ship before. Why do you think it's a good idea to let one of them run the ship, and more importantly, what qualifies a majority of the people to decide who that person should be?
