I know DC & the 20 blue states & 2 territories (who don't even get any electors so are really irrelevant) did this so that they could counteract the 18 states filing amicus in support of Texas but IMO this was a huge strategic error on their parts.

One of the main questions SCOTUS was going to resolve was the questions of original jurisdiction or not. Now with all those blue states on the Defendants' side, it makes it clear this is a case of nationwide controversy. It will be much more difficult for SCOTUS to squirm out of it.

I agree 100%. If they had just ignored it and left the 4 states alone they would have had a better shot at having the case not heard. Now you’re right though, they almost HAVE to hear this case. It’s too important now.
