The Dems knew that there was no way in hell any of their candidates would win the election. They knew they had to rig it. They picked Biden for two reasons:

1.) He was willing to take the gamble of being President. He'd die shortly after anyway, so he didn't give a damn. Others weren't willing to put their future career on the line in case the election was contested.

2.) The Dems thought that with a presumably moderate candidate without pronouns in his Twitter bio the Republicans would swallow the "loss" more easily. How bad can a Biden presidency really be?

Sucks to be them, though. TRUMP 2020

I vividly remember the Dems circling the wagons around Senile Joe Biden right before Super Tuesday. I suspect this happened because the Dems were so split that no candidate would be able to get a majority of delegates before the convention. I don’t think they had the foresight to realize the pandemic would make campaigning next to impossible.

If they had 2 to 4 viable candidates going into the convention, the convention itself would not be a coronation as it has typically been. For the DNC, letting the primaries play out would be tantamount to shooting yourself in the foot.

That one as well, I guess.
