So there is some talk going around about the possibility for states to attempt to secede from the union if the constitution is violated. My question is, if the overwhelming majority of counties in the U.S. are red, what happens if say a county in California were to want to go with Texas and the rest? Does the land mass of former California shrink? Because looking at the state level is a high level over view, a county map is a much more detailed picture of the U.S.

There's precedent for counties to break off and become a new state, specifically West Virginia.

I agree there won’t be a succession. If you want a historical context, in the Civil War, I believe West Virginia split with Virginia to side with the Union.

Pseudo Balkanization will commence before any sort of secession.

I live in a county in New York. Sign me up for New Texas!
