I'm sorry Patrick, but in our Founding Fathers debate on taxes, they wanted to avoid the slippery slope of taxing income. They debated taxing income, but all agreed it could NEVER exceed 10%. That is because for centuries most religions were suggesting a tithe of 10% of your income. They knew if any government forces you to pay over 10% they will have placed the government at a higher station than your religion. This would be tyranny and an obvious violation of the right to be free of religious persecution (now called 1st Amendment).
