My thought is this. China wants Taiwan, more control of the SCS and ECS. they can't take these if we're busy. Why sow division and crisis in the US homeland? They can't invade. They know that. But divide the nation, beat the USA the only way possible, make it turn on itself.
I posted a similar comment on a different post, and I got a legitimate question back: what is the alternative? China has set the stage for unrest, do you allow the players they own/control to continue destroying from within, or do you clean house? It’s a win-win for them.
I also threw out there if US civil unrest happens, the US must retaliate against them, might be topic for another day...
But we haven't retaliated for shit. Espionage is a 2 way street, they would see this as equal to supporting Taiwan or Hong Kong. Remember to look at this through the enemy lense. They view everything within the 9 dash line as theirs. For decades the USA and the western world has pushed back. They believe this is payback in kind. Im not agreeing with them, seriously fuck CCP, but view it throw their lense and it makes more sense why they don't give a fuck. They know they have the upper hand due to tyranny of distance (not technological, tactics, ability, or military might) so large-scale hot war is unlikely. They think in terms of generations while people in the western world want a pizza in 30 minutes or its free.
Hong Kong and Taiwan would be the first targets of China. I wonder if China would also try to invade Japan and South Korea?
What must be said is that China is becoming too large of a threat, and supposedly thanks to Bill Clinton, they have a ton of nukes we have to deal with...
