I'm no fan of Barr, but remember some of the criticisms of Comey and how he publicly stated that no one should prosecute Clinton even though she broke the law. Barr's behavior of not discussing investigations is much more appropriate than Comey's. I suppose the question is, should an investigation become public knowledge if there's a public interest like a presidential candidate? Typically we don't like to reveal investigations until there's an indictment.
