Actually, China IS a third world country. The Free world economy is the ONLY thing that allows them to get a little food to their billions of slaves.

Many would argue that Chernobyl is the spark that lead to fall of the Soviet Union.
The Three Gorges Dam breaking will be much worse than that for China. The dam breaking will be bad on its own, but what will push the disaster over the top will be the fact that there are more than a few major cities at risk of being destroyed from the wall of water (including Wuhan) and there are a number of nuclear power plants that are also at risk of being destroyed.
This will make Chernobyl look like a Sunday potluck picnic.
Outside the big cities it already is close to third world.
In it's greedy attempt to match western civilization, the chinese government spent the last decade or more investing in building up cities with no demand. Hoping that if it's built, people will come and those investments will be returned. Reality is now china have dozens of ghost cities and an empty coffer.
All of their technical advances are made on stolen technology and all of their medical "advances" are made via illegal human experiments and organ harvesting. Idiots like Bill Gates and the liberals are funding china and this is why they can keep the facade of staying afloat.
Not even that -- the Chinese gov't. holds a stake in most construction and building material companies (especially concrete). In order to keep those industries going they created the ghost cities; most of which are falling apart due to shoddy construction. Their economy is a gigantic make-work project, a house built on sand.
I don't think Gates is an idiot; I think he's something far worse. What do they get from funding China?..who pulls China's strings?

They wouldn't hesitate to use military force to get food, there are plenty of smaller countries around them.

They would try, but trying and succeeding are 2 different things. That's the conundrum China has: they're nearly out of options and force projection isn't as good as they need it to be at this time (they are desperately trying to get it there though; when they do can't be allowed to happen because they've shown how they'd use it).
