If SCOTUS does not accept the case (unlikely at this point) or rules against Texas, they have effectively disemboweled their own court.
Consider why judges want to be on the Supreme Court. It isn't for money and it certainly isn't for honor. It's for POWER.
Conservatives are "Rule of Law" people. It is a part of their core belief in personal responsibility. This is why judicial appointments are so important to us. This is why the Constitution (the Law of the Land) is so important to us.
Failing to accept the case or failing to rule strictly on the Constitutional violations will signal to the defendant states that they can get away with it in the future. It will also signal to petitioning states that they no longer have to abide by Supreme Court rulings because the court will have shown that the Constitution is worthless to them.
If the court goes this route, the practical effect will be the utter gutting of the Supreme Court. No state, person, entity will have to even acknowledge the court for any reason. They will lose their authority and their power. A local magistrate will have more power than they do.
No matter what they decide, we are already in some kind of civil war/crisis and their decision will have no bearing on that. What is happening in this country has already gone too far. So the previous points are the only ones that really matter.
Even knowing this, I can't anticipate if they will choose the Constitution and self preservation or suicide. People are stupid.
If the 3rd box fails, Trump can have grounds to say that the Judicial Branch is no longer effective and It's Insurrection Act time baby. I seriously doubt Trump will let his home turn into a commie shithole like Detroit, CHAZ/CHOP, California, New York, etc.
