This is literally the first time an mRNA vaccine has been used for humans. And it’s been developed in record time.... all for a 99.9% survival rate virus.
To be fair, they've been considered since 1989 albeit for cancer treatments. The problem has been coming up with a delivery mechanism that actually works. The lipid bilayer is the most fascinating part of the vaccine--and, ironically, possibly the most dangerous.
If I were completely honest, I hope it actually does work, because I'd much rather see it used to vaccinate for specific cancers that actually do kill people than for a virus that likely isn't going to harm most of the people it infects.
