My intel sources suggest VX or similar is a very serious risk though there is scepticism that it would be used for anything but false flag because they tend to have the urban advantage (and disadvantage as cities starve pretty quickly when you sabotage the water supply, electricity, transport links including food, spoil the soil, etc).
You should never actually invade a city if you can afford it just embargo it and destroy everything around it (air ports may need seizing too). It's always a difficult situation for your people in the city though. Destroy the water and it's basically dead.

There will need to be a very serious effort to secure nukes and that might be a problem in a civil war where elements of the military cannot be trusted to take sides. They'll need to be very careful with any major site especially nukes, etc. Then China and Russia will really be demanding intervention to confiscate anything that could be lost control of and then a threat to them.
Some nukes may need to be stowed away with an ally or unusual territory, etc. There are already contingency plans for this going back decades though it's still quite messy.

Of course, then we'll have to watch the Canadian Border where they've (Trudeau) allowed Chinese military training groups (supposedly cold-weather training) throughout their country. They have Canadian China-friendly forces training with/for those CCP groups. They may mobilize to US and they ARE trained. Also need to watch the CCP foces banded together in Mexico and Central/South America. With Commifornia open for the Chinese Navy (ty Gavin sellout), that leaves 3 directional attack zones. On top of that, Canada has allowed CCP nuclear sub alerts/response/info devices on the US east coast border for attack on the 4th direction.
