My intel sources suggest VX or similar is a very serious risk though there is scepticism that it would be used for anything but false flag because they tend to have the urban advantage (and disadvantage as cities starve pretty quickly when you sabotage the water supply, electricity, transport links including food, spoil the soil, etc).
You should never actually invade a city if you can afford it just embargo it and destroy everything around it (air ports may need seizing too). It's always a difficult situation for your people in the city though. Destroy the water and it's basically dead.
Many people are unaware of the significance of Russia's VX attack. In any civil war if it supplies that then it really is a case of anyone could win and anything could happen. Ship in 1KG of VX and that could in theory kill 10000 people.
Yes. All the aircraft movement over the last 4 days has placed our assets where they will be needed. Although they don't believe that the kinetic street war won't happen until 5 January, they're in place in the event it happens after the TX court case.
There will need to be a very serious effort to secure nukes and that might be a problem in a civil war where elements of the military cannot be trusted to take sides. They'll need to be very careful with any major site especially nukes, etc. Then China and Russia will really be demanding intervention to confiscate anything that could be lost control of and then a threat to them.
Some nukes may need to be stowed away with an ally or unusual territory, etc. There are already contingency plans for this going back decades though it's still quite messy.
