Supreme court doesn't care. Apparently it doesn't matter how states conduct their elections. They can cast their electoral college votes any way they want, and how they determine who they cast them for is apparently not the concern of any other state.
This has exposed a serious flaw in the system which is allowing states to conduct their elections for the presidency any way they want without regulation and without any responsibility to democracy. This is dumb, when the other states are effected by how those states cast their vote.
You need a rule at the federal level that says if a state is caught cheating in an election (to an extent likely to change their result) they lose their electoral college votes. Without that, state level elections for the presidency are moot. They may as well not even run them, and the legislatures can just choose their electors however they want.
Most civilized countries have a federalized electoral system where cheating in one part of the country is the business of the rest of the country because it's one big election, not a bunch of little independent elections. This is a flaw in the US system that bad actors have recognized and exploited here.
I am of two minds, I think localized elections minimize the amount of corruption to an extent. Federal rules for elections could be a disaster if the Democrats are in charge, they would nationalize no ID, illegals voting, 12-year olds voting, no signatures, etc.
On the other hand, it seems as if Republican states like FL and TX have figured out ways to keep their cheating corrupt Democrat cities from completely cheating on a massive scale.
