Three boxes necessary for a free society have already been taken away.
Prior to the election the soap box was taken away through social media censorship. What is the purpose of free speech or the soap box? It allows people to peacefully vent their anger, release steam. It allows the open discussions of ideas, the chance to debate and to convince others your ideas are better than others.
On November 3 the ballot box was taken away. What is the purpose of voting? It is the peaceful means to effectuate change. If voters don’t like the policies of those in office, they have the chance to replace them with someone else. To work it requires fair and honest elections so people will accept the results if their candidate loses. It provides legitimacy to the candidate who wins and legitimacy to the entire system
Yesterday, with the SC court ruling the jury box was taken away. Why do we have courts? It is a peaceful means to settle disputes between parties before a neutral arbiter or umpire who isn’t suppose to care which side wins and makes a decision according to agreed upon rules in advance where the parties agree to be bound by the decision even if they lose because they believe it to be a fair and just process . Without neutral arbiters, parties could only settle their disputes with violence/force , like challenging the other side to a duel centuries ago.
The above three boxes have one common theme- to maintain the peace.
