It was before all the pussies took over. No decade was perfect and there were still leftists out there, but I can clearly remember the love America vibe, the patriotic Olympics in LA, Springsteen with an album cover of American stripes, girls being actually happy, and real optimism.
I think early 90s had good music also. As a fellow GenX'r I believe we grew up and came of age during the best of times. We had music from the 60s',70,80s and early 90s to enjoy. We saw the cable TV increase our viewing options. The video game boom of early 80s. Atari, Coleco-vision, Commodore 64. And we still played outside stickball, football and BMX biking. Star Wars came out in 1977, TESB in 1980. I could go on and on. I wish I could live 1973-1994 over and over again.
Well yeah, Y2K was a big nothingburger but then 9/11 came seemingly out of nowhere and put a huge wet blanket on everything. We haven’t recovered from it.
The 80s were rad in a lot of ways, but I agree with you, it's when it became en vogue to eat the icing off the cake and do lots of coke on Wall Street.
I would like to beat your high school English and History teachers senseless - further senseless.
The 80s only seemed like unprecedented consumerism because they followed the Jimmy Carter years of the late 70s. Consumerism was no more rampant than in the 50s and 60s - maybe less so.
I remember watching the last remnant of music video programming they had and still enjoying it, wondering what had all gone so terribly wrong with a good idea.
No, it can also just be an objective fact. If I have to walk by junkies, homeless, and crazy people EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. DAY. Then my love for how it used to back then (without all of this) is not because of some human nature cherrypicking what I grew up with, it's totally normal and I'd be 100% correct because it was objectively better.
You can't seriously sit there and tell me that having junkies everywhere or that aggressive pessimistic people at every turn are better and more healthy, and that my point of view is just wrong. That's ridiculous.
Yup! I remember waiting up late at night to watch Headbangers Ball and 120 Minutes. I would get nostalgic seeing Kennedy on the The Five when I used to watch Fux. Good times and agree the Reality TV ruined it all.
hey the internet has too many good points to say it was a bad thing.
think about all this shit we know is going on now..it was going on BEFORE the internet but we had NO idea and NO remedy as a people, as a species, as free men.
only with the advent of the internet did we realize we were never free. and now we have a chance to change that.
Yeah, the rise of Seattle in the 1990s--grunge, Starbucks, Microsoft. I grew up in the area and it went from common sense working class folks to pretentious assholes pretty quick.
90’s were also the start of endless bailouts...LTCM.
It seems like a good decade because we we coasting off the 80’s and just ‘won the cold war’. In reality it’s when we let the foot off the gas, and started out coasting into the Hells air of the post 9/11 world
“we were coasting off the 80’s” . Reagan brought down inflation, people had jobs again, Texas oil was booming. GHW Bush was Reagan’s 3rd term. He lied to us “No New Taxes” and then he got rolled by the Dems. That gave us Bill the rapist Clinton from whom we were saved only by Newt and the 1994 Tea Party Congress. But Clinton still sowed the seeds for the housing financial crisis of 2007-2008. And we have been fucked eversince.
I don’t look as that as a bad thing. The internet is great in so many ways for dissemination of information. It was the rise of Brietbart and the ability for anyone to take on the mainstream media.
It’s the stranglehold of the tech oligarchs and the censorship that is disturbing.
it was the rise of social networks that corrupted the internet. If the lunch meat called spam became the catchword for a depersonalized email message, then social networking should be known as soylent green!
The internet would be great if it wasn't for that. but, for a lot of the ignorant majority, that is all they use.
was looking at it more from personal life perspective, not political. but you have to admit, the clinton presidency was entertaining. "i did not have sexual relations with that woman...." LMFAO
The 80s were good times. To tech companies. Kids actually went outside and got exercise. Anyone with pink hair was treated like the freak they were. I miss those days.
It was probably even fun for the pink paired people, goths, etc. They got to actually enjoy being angry at society for staring at them instead of just being smug for being trendy like now.
It was fun. It took balls to be an artfag. Now it’s safer than milk. And you get automatically assumed to be a leftist, which is an insult. Oh also it was much more creative and brainy...you had to make up your own outfits out of goodwill or whatever, or be brave enough to go into the sketchy part of town to the alternative or ethnic stores. Now there’s a Hot Topic in every mall and the general starter pack mentality IQ is below room temperature.
Nobody was racist in the 80's like at all. Race relations were probably at an all time high. Everyone was civil and mostly happy. An amazing time.
But now, race relations have probably never been worse! Movements like BLM are destroying race relations. Causing division, resentment and anger on both sides. We have the commie left to thank for this. Very bad times ahead.
I honestly don’t think that’s true in many ways. I think that the media and slimy politicians and race grifters want us to believe that it is worse. But in my everyday life and conversations with others, average people of all races get along just fine. It is just that it gets shoved in our faces so much that we think it’s worse than it is.
Then again, the white liberal snowflakes telling black people how to feel don’t help either...
'86 for me as well. Best music, prettiest NATURAL woman (no fake bewbs) and I didn't mind the big hair - it showed that a woman was making an effort to look nice.
The 80’s were the best. Not quite sure how we survived them but damn we had some fun! Sex, drugs and rock and roll wasn’t just a phrase. It was a goal for Saturday night!
80s was great 90s was mostly nice until the very end. It is amazing how much easier it was to just live back then. The more we have "progress" the harder it is to live and the more "crises" we have. Ordinary living has been turned into some kind of devastating torture by mentally unstable lunatics.
Race relations were much better in the 80s and 90s. Now after the first black president we have a "race problem". These are all manufactured crises to separate you from your wealth and free will.
Anyone who has lived long enough to remember what life was like before all this craziness can attest to that.
🎶Remember the good old 1980’s?
When things were so uncomplicated,
I wish I could go back there again,
And everything could be the same.
I’ve got a ticket to the moon...🎵
FANTASTIC recording. How Lynne decided the B-side single of Julie Dont' Live Here Anymore wasn't worth being on that album is puzzling though. But Lynne never wrote a bad song.
Man, I had an 86 Mercedes Benz 560SL about 15 years ago...it was an amazing machine but not something you can take 2 babies around town in so I had to let it go.
They were still in the early stages of economic shock testing and had not yet developed a computer powerful enough to crunch the predictions. They didn't as much freedom for social shock testing until they built Facebook.
And also fighting to keep the artificial seawall in front of it. These walls have led to beach erosion all over Oahu. But instead climate change will be blamed.
It was so much fun! I was in my 20's in the 80's. This old lady pede has some stories to tell lol! We worked hard and partied harder. I worked in San Francisco (prior to it becoming a freaking cesspool). There was some fun, long and what happened in SF stayed in SF nights!
It was a LOT like Stranger Things. The kids in that show are a year older than I was at the time and it’s really uncanny how they nailed the mood and the details.
As a kid growing up in the 80's, maybe I have rose tinted glasses, but I do believe it was the peak of our civilization. Everything since has been in decline.
Was in high school in the 70's, the music was amazing! Going to Winterland in San Francisco and seeing everyone live. The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Stones etc. When they didn't look like my Grandfather lol!
Sorry but this shit started in the early 1900s look up the documentary called the spector of Communism. It started before FDR and continued after. There was no safe time after the 1920s

Magnum PI is the greatest TV show. Obama’s crook friend bought the Robin Masters estate, tore it down, and is now violating ordinances in the new build, nobody is enforcing shit on him tho. I’d bet money that when it’s complete he hands it to the Obama family as a gift.
As a GenX'r that grew up in the 70's and 80's, I concur.
It was before all the pussies took over. No decade was perfect and there were still leftists out there, but I can clearly remember the love America vibe, the patriotic Olympics in LA, Springsteen with an album cover of American stripes, girls being actually happy, and real optimism.
80s are still my favorite decade for movies, music etc.
There was indeed something special with it! 😎👍

Best music, no draft, not many rules! Best time to grow up 100%!!

Couldnt agree more. C64 for life!
Yup same. I’ll take me some magnum pi 🥰🥰
Yep. None of our shenanigans were memoriaiized on social media, either. College was a blast ... life in general was fun and carefree.
Exactly! There are no pictures......therefore it didn't really happen lol!
Oh man this is a big plus. The bullshit I did back then is only memories.
I concur with your concur!
"Let's Make America Great Again" was Reagan's campaign slogan in '80.
and back then he was referencing the 50s.
The Worst Generation really did a number on this country, a few times now. spoiled brats.
Me generation was the 80s, kids born in the late 50s, early 60s.
Worst generation was the boomers who became 60s hippies and modern liberals.
Nope. Boomer.
We all want the 80's back, but everyone always forgets about 1984.
Not their best, but it was still good.
Jump, Panama, Hot For Teacher all good songs. Not a bad album, just not their best.
There's no question that it's either their best or second best.
Orwell.
80’s were also a time of consumerism going into hyper inflation which we’ve never recovered from.
You could not be more wrong.
Inflation was historically low in the 80s. From 1983 on it was 3% to 4%. Not as low as today, but low.

The 1970s, on the other hand.
https://inflationdata.com/articles/inflation-cpi-consumer-price-index-1970-1979/
Thanks Jimmy Fucking Carter, third worst President in history.
I’m not talking about monetary inflation. I’m using the term in the increase of consumerism synonymously.
The 80s were rad in a lot of ways, but I agree with you, it's when it became en vogue to eat the icing off the cake and do lots of coke on Wall Street.
It’s basically the origins to the present day where every kid needs every new iPhone release etc
I would like to beat your high school English and History teachers senseless - further senseless.
The 80s only seemed like unprecedented consumerism because they followed the Jimmy Carter years of the late 70s. Consumerism was no more rampant than in the 50s and 60s - maybe less so.
No, it’s because it actually was.
I'm old enough to remember when commie bastards were commie bastards and not House Representatives.
Or at least we knew they were the Kennedys.
Imagine if a senator on an intelligence committee was found to be laying pipe to a soviet spy in the 80s.
In the 80s if you called someone a “commie” you’d get a punch for it. Now they’ll wear a commie shirt in public and wave a flag.
Yeah, 80's were something special.
Fuckin' Real World was the beginning of the end for MTV.
it was also the beginning of "reality" not being reality.
those shows SCRIPTED using real clips, which is a black magic we had not yet known.
Y'know, can I just...I want my MTV
Money for nothing and chicks for free!
I remember watching the last remnant of music video programming they had and still enjoying it, wondering what had all gone so terribly wrong with a good idea.
That sums up the phenomonon. People always think that the era in which they grew up was the "greatest time ever." It's human nature.
No, it can also just be an objective fact. If I have to walk by junkies, homeless, and crazy people EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. DAY. Then my love for how it used to back then (without all of this) is not because of some human nature cherrypicking what I grew up with, it's totally normal and I'd be 100% correct because it was objectively better.

the 80s were great, but so were the 90s.
Eh that where our current cycle of decay took root...esp the SJW and environmental bs
Our current cycle took root in the 60s, we just got a nice little reprieve from it in the 80s
Well you could say it goes back 100 years to the Bolsheviks, then the Fascists and Communists
But at least 60’s radicals paid lip service to concepts such as ‘freedom’
Well you could say it goes back to Eve being deceived by the serpent and convincing Adam to disobey God.
yep. that is when the internet started to take hold..........
hey the internet has too many good points to say it was a bad thing.
think about all this shit we know is going on now..it was going on BEFORE the internet but we had NO idea and NO remedy as a people, as a species, as free men.

The phrase ignorance is bliss comes to mind.
it was. it was bliss. but we can't get it back. we ate the apple.
Yeah, the rise of Seattle in the 1990s--grunge, Starbucks, Microsoft. I grew up in the area and it went from common sense working class folks to pretentious assholes pretty quick.
I could see it back then... but it was pretty confined to college and ‘alternative’ culture. Now it’s everywhere
90’s were also the start of endless bailouts...LTCM.

The 90s was the rise of Political Correctness.
Yes, but 80s better
if you like the big hair thing, lol
Fuzzy Puzzy
Bush and Clinton? No thanks.
was looking at it more from personal life perspective, not political. but you have to admit, the clinton presidency was entertaining. "i did not have sexual relations with that woman...." LMFAO
A glorious time it was.
A team all the way.
The 80s were good times. To tech companies. Kids actually went outside and got exercise. Anyone with pink hair was treated like the freak they were. I miss those days.

People were racist in the 80’s. But it was more like a poser racism. When we actually interacted, we got along.
I think today is worse than the 80's.
This might just be my perception. But race relations are at an all time low today. In my opinion worse than the 80's.
I honestly don’t think that’s true in many ways. I think that the media and slimy politicians and race grifters want us to believe that it is worse. Graduated HS in ‘86. It was an amazing time.

The 80’s were the best. Not quite sure how we survived them but damn we had some fun! Sex, drugs and rock and roll wasn’t just a phrase. It was a goal for Saturday night!
Lots of late, late, late nights. Had a college friend from Peru ... times were very different!
80s was great 90s was mostly nice until the very end. It is amazing how much easier it was to just live back then. The more we have "progress" the harder it is to live and the more "crises" we have. Ordinary living has been turned into some kind of devastating torture by mentally unstable lunatics.

Well said.
How many 80s scifi predicted this exact outcome?
We were latchkey kids and now that's against the law.
AGREED. WE LIVE IN AN "EVERYONE GETS A TROPHY" SOCIETY
girls can be boys, people would rather fight for felons than fetuses, and big Tech controls the flow of information.
You are that time machine. Build a good life for your children.
Underrated comment. We aren't just the news pedes, we also pick the books, movies and games and gizmos.

FANTASTIC recording. How Lynne decided the B-side single of Julie Dont' Live Here Anymore wasn't worth being on that album is puzzling though. But Lynne never wrote a bad song.
Upvoted for Tom, his mustache, that Ferrari, and that character.
It's why I listen to synthwave and drive my 88 bmw up the pch at sunset, baby... closest I can get to going back
Man, I had an 86 Mercedes Benz 560SL about 15 years ago...it was an amazing machine but not something you can take 2 babies around town in so I had to let it go.
E28? E30?
I had an 85 E30, it was a great car.
E28 535is :)
The secret societies were in control back then as well.
Not as much control.
They were still in the early stages of economic shock testing and had not yet developed a computer powerful enough to crunch the predictions. They didn't as much freedom for social shock testing until they built Facebook.
Obama just bought the Magnum PI estate on the Hawaiian coast.
So much for global warming.
And also fighting to keep the artificial seawall in front of it. These walls have led to beach erosion all over Oahu. But instead climate change will be blamed.
I wasn’t around for the 80’s but it seemed cool!
I wish I could take the time machine to see what it was like
It was so much fun! I was in my 20's in the 80's. This old lady pede has some stories to tell lol! We worked hard and partied harder. I worked in San Francisco (prior to it becoming a freaking cesspool). There was some fun, long and what happened in SF stayed in SF nights!

I want to go back. Badly.
"Back to the Future" immortalises what 1980's America was.
We have to go back.
Then u know next 30 years will be shit until trump comes. fun
Or you do a nice writeup about it all and hand deliver it to Trump.
As a 90s kid I've long felt I was born a decade too late.
Updooted for Rockin Reagan! I received a presidential fitness award signed by him as a young chap.
''We defeated the wrong enemy'' -General George S Patton
70s were better with classic rock n roll, California beaches and skateboarding
...Carter, Malaise, run away inflation, gasoline rationing. No thanks. Give me the 80s.
Yeah. There was a lot of cool music in parts of the 70s, but the last thing we need is another misery index.
Disco, Bush and passage of citizenship act for illegal aliens. ... No thanks
I agree about the 70's. It all started going to hell when David Coverdale started wearing a perm.
I mean, how do you go from Deep Purple to that shit? Haha
Yep, people 58 - 50 years old had it the best!!!!
Was in high school in the 70's, the music was amazing! Going to Winterland in San Francisco and seeing everyone live. The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Stones etc. When they didn't look like my Grandfather lol!
When we still made (almost) everything we needed right here in AMERICA!! No foreign reliance!
This is so true. We loved America, life was much simpler. And MTV played good music videos instead of mostly crappy reality television.
Sorry but this shit started in the early 1900s look up the documentary called the spector of Communism. It started before FDR and continued after. There was no safe time after the 1920s

Hang around fly fishermen and hockey players. It's back in full force and unironic. Come to think of it, fuck manlet hipsters for ruining something so masculine for a decade.
Uncle Rico, is that you?
This was when we started letting them take over.
It was before my time, but watching Magnum makes me life was that way too.
People in the 70s and 80s got too relaxed. Thought the cold war was done. Little did you know they spread like a virus once they infiltrate society. Thanks for the pet rock though.
I'm sorry, but by the 90s, the damage was done. George carlin talks about political correctness and changing language in the late 80s.
So you've got your dicks, your pussies and your assholes...
Magnum PI is the greatest TV show. Obama’s crook friend bought the Robin Masters estate, tore it down, and is now violating ordinances in the new build, nobody is enforcing shit on him tho. I’d bet money that when it’s complete he hands it to the Obama family as a gift.
Remember him holding that sexy girl's ass in the water at the start of every show.
I'm the 80s were corrupt too dude sorry to burst your bubble but its been since atleast ww1 really showing its true colors since JFK assassination
Those of us that grew up in the 70s n 80s had it ALL without the internet aka SATAN!
If you are a tom selleck fan you should watch all the Jesse Stone movies
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Stone_(character)#Television_adaptations
The 80s were rad. Great time to grow up.
I agree! Lets do the 80's again. Less coke..
All those little and subtle cultural concessions you guys were making i ln the 80s is why were here now
If I had a time machine, I’d go help McCarthy sniff out the commies.
