Yeah the Obama purges where rough, lots of good SSGs and SFCs got "early retirement" via medical boards. I remember people being so afraid of asking for mental health help because it was a career ending medial appointment.

Many of those factors were also in play prior to Obama, even began in the 20th Century. What you just mentioned also falls under the "zero defect" mentality that was in full force during the draw-down of the 1990s. George Washington's career would've ended during the colonial period if they had the same mentality back then.

I enlisted back in '98 and always thought it was weird how few Desert Storm vets still in uniform. It wasn't until we transitioned from Bush to Obama that it realized how little democrats care about service members. Economy is collapsing and Obama reduces BAH by 300-500 a month based on zip codes. PCSing, getting promoted actually meant service members lost money. Then the DoD started the never ending "reductions in force" pushing out anyone they could before they could qualify for VA Disability Retirement. 2011-2014 where brutal, look at the suicide rates.

What you described above also happened in the 1990s, during the Clinton draw-down. We saw, back then, that the Democrats didn't care about the military. The difference from Bush Sr. to Clinton was noticeable.

You came in at a good time, as that was around the time the JCS went before Congress and actually told the truth about the state of the military, retention, and troop moral. The hemorrhage of service members was described as being like "rats abandoning a sinking ship".

President Clinton was in hot water as well. We started to see a reversal from the "draw-down lusts". Before that, JCS kept blowing rainbow colored steam up Congress' rear end about the state of the military that contradicted what we understood to be the actual case. Bush Jr. cared about us and we saw better policies coming down from D.C.

The late '90s weren't to bad, at least as far as I knew being a boot at the time.

Ironically, I had chow with General Jones when he was the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and thought he was gonna take care of the military under Obama, little did I know he's a big part of the current coup against Trump with his ties to the Atlantic Counsel, etc.

Thought the same with General Mattis. Until I found out he got scammed by crazy chick with the blood company. I was out after that.
