There were no innocent parties in world war 2's creation. He ceased being honorable when he literally started invading europe and putting people alive in ovens.
But the history book leaves out "why", and that's what you're referring to. It doesn't justify anything the Third Reich did, but that missing piece of history is awfully memory holed.
Hitler did a lot of things for a long time before he began mass executions, ovens or otherwise. His motives aren't particularly informative to us now, except his "shrinking markets" concept that forced him into war is similar to US 1980's re: China. (Lots of facts that've been covered up in this area)
Our real chance to learn from history is Russia turning into USSR 1917-1921. Or Rhodesia ceasing to exist, while their patriotic soldiers were labeled white supremacists even though a huge portion of their soldiers were black. Or Syria. Or Venezuela. Or Ukraine. (And many more)
Sorta. Historians write history. Generals tend to lie to make themselves look good. After WWII with Hitler being dead and all, this gave German generals an especially good opportunity to lie. And Russian is really hard to translate into English, plus their military stuff is virtually impossible to translate. And the Soviets haven't translated much of anything for us.
If you want to just while away the time, one good guy searching WWII ground war facts I've found is Tik on youtube. He's good because he explores sources, and lays out his reasoning for agreeing with any source, or not.
Good point on Rhodesia. Their security forces were around 80% black at the height of the war I believe, and the Rhodesian African Rifles was one of the oldest and elite regiments in Rhodesia.
Did some join for economic reasons? Sure. But many joined because the commie terrs killed and mutilated many of their own family members that didn’t submit to their cause.
The communists won in the end, but the Africans were the ones who suffered the most (look up Gukurahundi).
I’m afraid our country is headed in the same direction. The terrorists were trained and indoctrinated by the same forces that corrupt our nation today; the Communist Chinese, and formerly the USSR Cuba, and North Korea.

Yep, history books don't talk about the "why", only the "what", and they leave out half the "what". The winners of the war write the history books.
