Good point on Rhodesia. Their security forces were around 80% black at the height of the war I believe, and the Rhodesian African Rifles was one of the oldest and elite regiments in Rhodesia.
Did some join for economic reasons? Sure. But many joined because the commie terrs killed and mutilated many of their own family members that didn’t submit to their cause.
The communists won in the end, but the Africans were the ones who suffered the most (look up Gukurahundi).
