Town squares could once again gain significance.

On edit: simply trying to say if comms are all shut down I won't be spending my time (or batteries) tying to reestablish old existing sites. I'll be at the town square meeting up with others to take whatever action is called for.

So the DNS cache is and may be important to manipulate if this does occur. The Cache means your computer remembers the sites you requested and stores the corresponding IP Address so you don't have to look it up via the centralized DNS service.

This can also be bypassed by directly inputting the IP address if you know it, so in the case where the DNS lookup is hijacking you, you might be able to bypass, but I find it unlikely that they will do this. More likely they will target the bad site's certificates and domains and suspend those. Part of why .Win has bought several backup domains.

True, but napster went through a similar fight during its end, and it lasted quite a while doing that.

I think if it came down to that, ham radio would be making a huge comeback. And you would see a lot of communication in games.

Could be. Nellie Ohr certainly thinks so.
