Seems simple to me. Someone guy named John Smith verified himself as John Smith and changed his name to Ron or maybe his name was Ron Smith even. Any John/Ron Smith can have CodeMonkeyZ as their username.
Parler's verification is meant to show the person isn't a bot and is in fact a real person not that the person is who they say they are.
The phone number for a regular account, red shield is for a verified account by driver’s license etc, gold shield is for media, celebrities etc, so a fraud could get a red shield and change their name, but the gold shield that’s the problem. Has anyone one tried text now as their phone number?

You have to provide a non VOIP phone number, it has to be linked to an actual number, otherwise you can't create an account, hence the reason I won't be be on it, even if that will be the last standing contact app, besides TheDonald.win of course.
I use GAB for the most, been there pretty much since the beginning, and it has come a long way.
I enjoy it very much. Still needs some polish and a few other things, but I find a lot of interesting groups and lots of different points and views, with most willing to have discussions, instead of trying to gain "Internet points", or being asshats.
There are Bigoted groups on there, but you can adjust your Home feed, and Gab is working on video hosting, but with the sudden massive growth due to the election fraud and censorship, it might be awhile.

Parler retains some residual information if you decide to "delete" your account. This is at a minimum your email and probably phone number.
