If you live in Minnesota like me, or a similar state where you need a permit before you can buy a gun, you have two options.

  1. Get your concealed carry. But you gotta wait 30 days from when you apply to when it arrives in the mail. That's not counting the gun safety course you must complete before you can apply for your concealed carry.

  2. Get a permit to purchase. You only have to wait 7 days for it to arrive.

So the best strategy is to do it like this: Apply for your permit to purchase, then take a gun safety course, then apply for your concealed carry.

You'll gain the ability to buy a gun right away, you'll get a halfway decent education in safely handling it and how to avoid the law fucking you if you ever have to use it, and then when the conceal carry arrives, it acts as your permit to purchase for the next 5 years.

I took my safety course on gunclass.com. If your state lets you take the class online, I highly recommend that, because you can go at your own pace instead of the instructor's pace. Don't rush through it, study each video and take notes. You're not just studying for a test, you're preparing yourself for a heavy responsibility.
