To be fair, plenty of American businesses and citizens own land and assets in other countries. I plan to buy a house in Mexico, I don’t want to have to become a Mexican citizen first. I guess my point is just that this is a pretty complex and nuanced issue and we probably can’t resolve by only permitting citizens to own assets within our borders, and prohibiting all foreign investment.

It's not just Smithfield; there are 3 primary producers of pork in this country, and each one, by 2010/2012 at the latest had controlling shares bought by the Chinese. They are major stakeholders in all of our domestic pork production, outside of small, local producers (which don't really exist anymore). I know this because back in that time span I worked in the pork industry. The breeding operations were re-configuring to supply pork to the Asian (Chinese) market. Also, it was required to ship raw feed materials to China to be processed, with the finished feed shipped back to be purchased by the commercial farms (that was before 2010) -- the stuff was absolute shit (hogs literally had to be fed huge amounts just to stay somewhat ok; I wouldn't call them healthy). So, my guess is that they were taking the best part of the feed material (soy, corn primarily, but some other grain/forage by-product) for their own use and sending back that.
Now, I'm sure, peon that I am, that people in charge have known about this if my co-workers and I could see it...but, money buys a lot of things.

We used to produce rare earth minerals here in the US, which are needed to manufacture all sorts of things. Politicians managed to pass enough onerous regulations to get it shut down for environmental reasons, and now we depend on China for those minerals. Surely that was because China is known for their clean refineries and care of the environment, and nothing to do with that politicians getting lucrative deals when the refining had to be moved to China. 😒

Or instead of that, we just take our excess money that we took from not paying back China, and use it to help stabilize the US dollar even more, possibly even deflating the currency a little bit, so that we can force all the countries of the world to use USD, thus making the USD the only real currency.

It's not just Smithfield; there are 3 primary producers of pork in this country, and each one, by 2010/2012 at the latest had controlling shares bought by the Chinese. They are major stakeholders in all of our domestic pork production, outside of small, local producers (which don't really exist anymore). I know this because back in that time span I worked in the pork industry. The breeding operations were re-configuring to supply pork to the Asian (Chinese) market. Also, it was required to ship raw feed materials to China to be processed, with the finished feed shipped back to be purchased by the commercial farms (that was before 2010) -- the stuff was absolute shit (hogs literally had to be fed huge amounts just to stay somewhat ok; I wouldn't call them healthy). So, my guess is that they were taking the best part of the feed material (soy, corn primarily, but some other grain/forage by-product) for their own use and sending back that.
Now, I'm sure, peon that I am, that people in charge have known about this if my co-workers and I could see it...but, money buys a lot of things.

Don't give up so easily. You can find another supplier. Keep looking even if you have to dive a couple hours to get what you want buy bulk and it will be one trip for months or longer depending on what you can afford. Local farmers and getting in good with them are your answer to helping your local economy. Where are you at that you can't find alternatives?

What we need to do is take out more loans from China to pay off all of our other debt that is owned by non-China entities, nationalize the Fed and put it under direct control of the Treasury, take out even more loans from China (as much as we can really), then default on all of it suddenly. When the ensuing global catastrophe hits, we offer grants to the other countries so that their economy doesn’t completely fall (or loans, so that they’re enslaved to the US) and only China is fucked. Or instead of that, we just take our excess money that we took from not paying back China, and use it to help stabilize the US dollar even more, possibly even deflating the currency a little bit, so that we can force all the countries of the world to use USD, thus making the USD the only real currency.
We’d just need to buy up the world’s gold reserves and nationalize all assets related to the Fed as well (i.e. other central banks of the world).
