Exactly... to think of the militias role is very interesting.. I wonder the form it should take. Others have answers on this. For one I assume they should not “police”.... they are a reactionary force substantially I assume... protect property/local citizens. Not out making arrests etc. Would like to see this topic develop
Honestly, the way they used to work in colonial days would be just fine. Police do the policework, patrol, keep public order, make arrests, enforce laws.
Riot control, anything you'd use SWAT for, up to but just short of using the National Guard... that stuff is the militia's job.
Demilitarize the police. Less Judge Dredd, more Sheriff Taylor.
