It's a kid trying to be patriotic. We need more of that! Don't be all judgy because she doesn't know your rules. She is showing more fortitude that most of the GOP so get behind what she stands for and don't nitpick.

Wonder if they would have approved if it were the flag of China?

11
Swellingsuperman 11 points ago +12 / -1

I bet if it was some Indian students flag of India it would have been allowed. Do you think they would have dared to pull the picture and say no props allowed??? No way.

I know there are rules about the flag, but this doesn’t bother me. I interpret this as a bold young person who loves her country, literally draped in patriotism. I’m more than OK with that.

In my original comment I was going to make a snide remark about how I bet if some trans kid taped a dildo to their forehead they wouldn't have an issue with "props."

Regardless I’d rather see young people wrapping themselves in the flag than burning and stomping on it as is common these days. She will hopefully learn proper flag etiquette eventually. For now I won’t judge her too harshly.

You're entitled to your opinion. She's doing nothing wrong. Men and women have fought and given their lives to give us so much, including our ability to show our love for country by wrapping ourselves in a flag if we so choose. They've even fought for your freedom to lawfully desecrate the flag with impunity if you so choose. This young lady is showing her love for her country and under no circumstances in today's world with kids growing up so fucked up, should that be discouraged or disparaged such as you are doing.

You're entitled to your opinion. She's doing nothing wrong.

It's not OPINION, it's part of the Flag Code. It is disrespectful. And she is LITERALLY doing something wrong.

The wearing of the flag is listed as unacceptable according to U.S. flag code section 176 (d) which states, "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery." While many people think the flag code states that you can't wear any type of flag apparel, including a cape, the truth is that you can wear flag clothing as long as it's not made from an actual, real American flag. So can you wear a flag tee shirt? Yes. Can you wear a cape made with the stars and stripes as the pattern? Yes. Can you drape an actual flag over your shoulders and wear it as a cape? The answer to that one is no because of the flag code stipulating real flags are not meant for such purposes.

You're right and you're wrong. It is flag code, not law. Antifa legally burns the American Flag in the streets every day. (Burning of the flag is legal anyways, burning anything in the street is illegal but nonetheless unenforced.) Fact of the matter is that what you initially stated is nothing at all more than your own personal opinion. Fact.

Bluestorm83 -1 points ago +1 / -2

United States Flag Code is actually Federal Law, Chapter One of Title Four of the United States Code, specifically. However, it was written intentionally to be unenforceable. It is assumed that it would be followed out of Patriotism.

There's no opinion about it, this is the way that Our Nation has chosen to be a standard way for us to honor Our Flag. You are free to choose to be an asshole and dishonor it, without the law punishing you, but if I personally see someone disrespecting MY flag, they need to watch their fucking back.

BunnyPicnic 11 points ago +12 / -1

Doesn't matter. They'd ban an American flag t shirt as well. These people hate everything America.

This is in the city of Spokompton, WA where I live. Some Patriots stood up to the cucks that said this wasn't ok and she will be able to put this in the yearbook. School boards, teachers, and principals tend to be libtards and it isn't going in the right direction.

They should make a special rule that US flags are required in all yearbook photos.

2
TrumpLovesPussy 2 points ago +3 / -1

really pisses me off that being patriotic is seen as a negative by some assholes IN the USA...wtf

1
RuralVAGuy 1 point ago +1 / -0

She should make a dress out of that flag and wear it. A dress is not a prop.

1
crusadetiem 1 point ago +1 / -0

Isn’t this a violation of the flag code?

1
Ichabod 1 point ago +1 / -0

Contact the local companies funding the yearbook and tell them to cancel payment.

Bluestorm83 1 point ago +2 / -1
  1. If their "No Props" policy is an actual policy, and they enforce it evenly, then that's what we want: Equal Under the Law. No Two Tier System. It sucks that Patriotism is the topic here, but that's that.

  2. Pretty sure that Flag Code says that the Flag is not to be worn. And I'm not sure if whatever she's sitting on there counts as the Ground...

  3. I love what she's going for, but honestly, it's important to not only love our Flag, but to Honor it appropriately. Were I her, I'd readjust, and find some other way to stick it to the man. Perhaps find a rather patriotic location full of American Flags, and take a picture there, while wearing clothing with American Flag Patterns on them. That would satisfy the "no props" rule, and also serve as a resounding "Fuck You" to the commies.

I agree with not wearing the flag. I would tell her that high school today is a meaningless exercise in agitprop, and that she will not regret forgetting it all and moving on with her life, but she's young and won't be ready to hear that for another decade or so.

-1
Hussar -1 points ago +1 / -2

Does anybody believe for one attosecond that the school would've tried to stop her if she had posed with some obnoxious blm banner or flag?

We all know they wouldn't. This isn't about 'props', this is about making sure that other students - many of whom have probably been lobotomized by Instagram and Twitter and led to believe that far left arsonists don't exist - aren't made 'uncomfortable'.

0
Juantinntwo 0 points ago +1 / -1

They absolutely would block those image submissions as well and request a new one without a prop. The problem with allowing any wiggle room on the rules is it opens the floodgates to other students doing the same thing and parents complaining about pref. Treatment.

Dunno why this was posted. The school just told her to send another image for yearbook not including a prop. She wasn’t suspended or something more dramatic. Also people are making a good point about US flag codes.

2
Hussar 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don't agree. Many public schools have been shoehorning 'critical race theory' and other blm-aligned nonsense into their curricula, and there have been stories in the past of students complaining that a 2nd Amendment shirt or something similar makes them feel "unsafe".

The second they tell a student "no blm flags in your photo", it turns into a national news story about how racist the school is, and no amount of saying "rules are rules" will convince the media vultures and racial agitators to go away. Considering that many public schools will capitulate when an irritating atheist group throws a fit over a coach leading a pre-game prayer, I'd say that there's a strong chance of buckling in the face of a blm temper tantrum or some walk-out from students. There have been at least a few instances of high schools choosing to fly blm flags on campus, so it's not as though schools are pretending to be neutral.

As for the flag code, I mean, how many Trump rallies have technical violations of the flag code?

I’m a teacher and I help with yearbook. It’s not gonna happen unless in some liberal shithole of CA.

-1
BlinkinSun -1 points ago +1 / -2

It would be damn easy to argue that it’s a piece of clothing. Would they disallow a Peruvian student to wear a traditional poncho?

-1
mostooge -1 points ago +1 / -2

Our flag is exceptional, just like our country. Exceptions must be made.

-3
RollWave -3 points ago +5 / -8

the rule says no props. they'd have rejected a picture if she had been hugging her dog or holding a basketball.

You can argue whether or not its a good rule, i don't really care. Probably some kids last year tried to submit a photo with a bong or something and they were 'its just a hookah' so this year they set a no props rule to not have to deal with it.

this has nothing to do with leftists.

0
The_Emperor 0 points ago +3 / -3

Like all rules, they have to define 'props'. In the common dictionary definition of prop, a flag over the shoulder might be a costume when used as a shawl, or a prop, if used as a tarp. Leftists love making ambiguous rules, then their 'authority' to control you. If people just agree to very very clear rules, we could get along better.

0
Juantinntwo 0 points ago +1 / -1

The US flag should never be worn or considered to be someone’s shawl.

Why not just take it as a background. Seems like a decent loophole since it would not be an addition to the photo.

0
Ophelia 0 points ago +3 / -3

If they allow this one they would have to allow a BLM one.

2
Nori 2 points ago +4 / -2

Don't see why. Our flag is the official county flag, it is likely even flown at the school... The other is simply a symbol with no standing.
