Blast from the Past, man. We've known about this since the very first episode of TNG, when Riker and Worf are sitting around talking about not eating real meat and having casual sex.
Might not have been the actual first episode, I don't believe that Riker was actually in that one. But it was definitely season one.
But yeah, Roddenberry became an insufferable communist as he aged. Which is why DS9 jumped through so many hoops to allow interpersonal conflict (which Roddenberry explicitly forbade between Starfleet Officers, unless someone was possessed or mind controlled or an evil alien doppelganger) until Roddenberry died, and they could run the show the way they wanted to. Did you think it was an ACCIDENT that the main cast was four standard bland Starfleet Officers, an originally antagonistic Bajoran Military Officer, a scheming Ferengi Bar Tender, two unaffiliated teenagers, a grumpy Shape Shifting Alien, and they quickly introduced the recurring characters of the duplicitous Gul Dukat, the mysterious pathological liar and potential Cardassian spy Garak, the financial mastermind Ferengi Grand Nagus Zek, and on and on it goes.
As CRAZY as it seems, Modern Trek is actually only returning to Roddenberry's original SJW bullshit plan. We'd almost gotten away from it all, thank the Founders. But here we are again...
