Yes! I'm not a "prepper" per se, but I like to keep well stocked on a few essentials. Oatmeal is one. It keeps for a long time too. Another staple is peanut butter.
In a scenario like that, animals will be quickly hunted to extinction levels. A few weeks without trucks and a normal economy, and people will be eating dogs/cats. A few months and they'll be eating each other.
I can my own tomatoes in glass and they last for many many years. Any tomato product in a metal can you should probably chuck after the expiration date.
I am old fat and half blind but I have a pretty nice collection of first aid supplies, tools and nonperishables that I hope good people will find when I'm gone.
If things start to get very bad in my lifetime I will be definitely be telling a few select people to remember my basement when the time comes. I live in an area where it's not good to advertise to soon.
I'm going to also recommend. Although a neighborhood watch or Mutual assistance group (MAG) might be better. If you consider a militia check your state laws because amazingly they are illegal in some states. (@&$$%#&#&#)
Like in Massachusetts- you need a permission slip for that. Know your local and state laws so you don't become easy targets.
Our main exports to China are Soybeans, oil, cotton, rice. The main exports of China to the US are computer equipment/phones/industrial machinery, cheap home goods (cheap furniture and home decor) plastic toys, cheap shelf stable snack food.
I’d prepare to keep your electronics in good working order for a long time! Get some cash on hand. Later down the road resources for science and medicine will be impacted. Most of our chemicals and minerals used to make batteries are mined in China. The EPA won’t allow that level of environmental destruction in America, at least not yet. I’m sure that will change too.
At the least get a 100lbs of rice and beans then get O2 absorbers and mylar, a way to purify water, a way to start fires. Ammo and all other stuff come next IMO.
I agree with you in principle, but it's important to understand that in the breakdown of the social order, "might makes right" is suddenly at the forefront again. It's no use having supplies if someone is able to just turn up and take it with their "might".
And the 5 round limit on your still legal semis is meaningless in SHTF situations.
I am a us expat in Canada at the moment, but a lot of canadians aren't going to roll over. Maybe its because most of my friends are redneck hunter types and my industry is forestry and that attracts a certain type.
As a somewhat seasoned prepper, I recommend two books: How to Eat in the Woods and How to Stay Alive in the Woods. They're about $15 a piece and you can find them online at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. Both books have crucial information so I think it's important to have both. You should never starve to death. You can cook the majority of bugs, like moths and crickets and even eat them raw.
Don’t buy Mets. 5 gallon bucks with rice & beans is the cheapest way to go. Buy Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Seal with a hair iron.
Cash is king! Don’t blow your money on preps until you have cash saved up.
Water: don’t rely on bottled water. The bottles don’t store and will leak as the degrade. Buy the 5-6 gallon water jugs. Life straws are a cheap option to have on hand as well. They won’t last indefinitely but will get you through some bad times.
Have your personal identification documents and and copies of any property titles etc ready to go at a moments notice. Displaced people have real world problems proving their identity or returning home and claiming property.
Make sure your family has clear communication plans if cell phones or power goes out long term.
Even if you don’t get your license - get a ub5r and program it using RepeaterBook.
I’ve been to lazy to get my license and honestly, it’s just people asking other people what radio their using or talking about arthritis. When things get real it’ll change quickly.
Yep. Rice, beans, oatmeal, lentils (big protein). Canned meats, canned soups. Pasta. Canned tomatoes and sauce. As much water as you can store. Basic first aid. Propane cook stove ($20 at Walmart) and propane tanks.
Those blue bottles of water at walfart that are refillable would work?
Got only single use water bottles now.
Thought about the big bottles and get a manual dispenser if needed
Never hurts to prepare.
Think of it as your own little store.
Would you go out for a new shampoo send 30+ minutes shopping or would you rather go to your little Cache Shopee' in the basement or wherever it may be?
Its just so much more convenient with foods that arent perishable and other items for sure.
Yep. Always have stuff on hand, no matter what. Any disaster can strike at any time. Storms. Loss of power. Loss of employment. You never know. It's better to just be prepared.
Big berkey water filters are a must have and can filter some of the nastiest water. Filters last up to 6k gallons and we just added one. Not cheap but good to be able to filter any kind of water if needed.

Will pick up a bunch tomorrow, thanks.
Oatmeal and peanut butter is not why everyone is fat and diabetic
Not true

Peanut butter as well. Good protein and last a good while.
even if it expires it will keep you alive.
I can my own tomatoes in glass and they last for many many years. Any tomato product in a metal can you should probably chuck after the expiration date.
Liquid goo cheese... ewwww
^^^^ Who knew Gwyneth Paltrow was on TD.win? :)
Has to be something that keeps without a freezer. Like jerky. And a lot of water to go with that
I'm in Canada, so
Wise advice.
Worst case, you have extra food to eat.
Dried fruit, beef jerky, canned foods, extra water cause you never know and dry ingrediants.
Flour can be kept in a freezer to avoid bugs.

MAGS are less likely to end up marauders.
Do you take extremely useful political refugees from blie states?😃

You need calories to fight. Look at every civil war we've witnessed. Food is essential, now do you need protection, of course that too is essential
Any advice for a Canadian?
Used to come down regularly but they haven't let us cross the border since March!
As a Canadian, learn to machine.

What is a mag?
Mutual assisstance/aid group

Thanks, just grabbed from Amazon!!
Good stuff. Oh that poor guy...LOL

This. A ham radio licence is so worth while and most ham repeters are set up for grid failure, since they are so difficult to get to.

Plan ahead too. Get some seeds for planting food next year.
Freezer packed with sheep, deer, ducks, geese, and veggies from the garden. 😁
I'm not a prepper. What would you suggest I do to get started? Do you think everything is going to shut down soon?
Can we get links for these items?
