Don’t buy Mets. 5 gallon bucks with rice & beans is the cheapest way to go. Buy Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Seal with a hair iron.

Cash is king! Don’t blow your money on preps until you have cash saved up.

Water: don’t rely on bottled water. The bottles don’t store and will leak as the degrade. Buy the 5-6 gallon water jugs. Life straws are a cheap option to have on hand as well. They won’t last indefinitely but will get you through some bad times.

Have your personal identification documents and and copies of any property titles etc ready to go at a moments notice. Displaced people have real world problems proving their identity or returning home and claiming property.

Make sure your family has clear communication plans if cell phones or power goes out long term.

This. A ham radio licence is so worth while and most ham repeters are set up for grid failure, since they are so difficult to get to.
