I'm inclined to agree with your sentiment however I suspect that of the roughly 50% that vote Dem only a portion of them hold true conviction or their beliefs. Many are just fence sitters tuned in to cnn.

Secession or as some have been calling it, a great divorce, must be considered. The fact is that large portions of the population, be it through true conviction or media brain washing, don't hold the same values and ideas as the rest. We cannot drag them, kicking and screaming, into a free america. They're world view is incomparable with ours.
What's to be done in that case? Should they be dominated and then expected to behave as productive citizens? Should they be imprisoned? No harm should come the citizenry simply because they hold different beliefs. It's better to draw our lines and live as free people on our side.

The south was assimilated back into the union through a long and painful process that never truly concluded. The left, even the center, would be made into refugees in an occupied land with no comprehension of why things came to pass. The division would only grow and the conflict only worsen. We still have many ways to save our union, but should it come to blows, we must not lose the aim of freedom for all. We cannot imprison half a nation.
1869 SC case ruled Texas had no right to secede which was more of a practical decision than a legal one. The chances of a court ruling after a bloody civil war Texas had the right to leave would have meant the martyred Lincoln waged an illegal war and unnecessarily caused 600,000 dead Americans.
