I’m fairly ignorant in these matters - but I believe a nationwide intranet would be a logistics nightmare. You would likely need dedicate line connecting every computer.

Now, I’m sure there are systems that are intranet only. But those are few and far between.

I’m with you though: go with old school dumb devices or make sure newer devices have an air gap.
