Solarwinds is huge. Like everyone uses them for monitoring and aggregation. From the government to backbones.
If they were breached, our entire network system could be compromised. The. Whole. Thing. You access a backbone, you can intercept traffic and packets.

IT people use this software to manage millions of devices and servers. This is a highly sophisticated successful breach that allows complete command and control of these systems. It is hard to detect and fix and is almost 100% the work of a nation/state.
