The Midwest was majority ethnically German during WWI (and WW2), and they behave as magnificent Patriots. I still believe most Chinese Americans will do the same.

I agree. I happened to know Chinese nationals working here in US.

Here are my two cents: US Academia prefers to recruit obedient Chinese PhD candidate rather than train perhaps challenging Americans. Based on my experience, I would say that these Chinese students are 2/3 genuine, 1/3 spies. The primary guilty parties are the traitors who let that happens.

FYI: I am not in charge of recruiting in any institutions I have been working. And I have been fully aware of CCP infiltration.

Do Chinese citizens need permission from the CCP to move to another country? I assume so. How do they earn approval? Do they need extra high CCP loyalty / social credit standing?

If you're just a regular person immigrating, no you don't need any permission.

Social credit scores don't play into it at all?

Nope. Why would it? It doesn't make sense to. You go to the consulate of the country in question and apply and get the visa, just like you go to a Chinese consulate in say, Chicago or NYC to get a Chinese tourist visa and then buy a ticket and fly out. The home country isn't involved.

A lot of them are leaving because they don't want to live there anymore. Living in Vancouver Canada you realize quickly there are two types of chinese people living in our city. Those who left because they want to live in Canada and those that want to create another China. The ones who moved to Canada because they like western society generally hate other Chinese people.

I would put today’s Chinese students as 3/3 spies. Or at the very least 2/3 spies 1/3 useful idiots.

I’d say that the Chinese here that are not spies are the ones that risked everything to escape in the 70s and 80s to come here with nothing. I wasn’t in DC this weekend, but my friend posted about how many older Chinese people he was meeting decked out in MAGA gear - most of them immigrants from that era. Just like the Russians that came here in the 80s and 90s and the Cubans today. People risking their lives to run away from communism are usually some of the loudest advocates against it.
