Ill she'll out some clams for that. Google being preinstalled and necessary for smartphone Funktionalität of 80% of the smartphone market is monopolistic behavior and the same kinda shit microsoft got in trouble for before

LineageOS comes to mind. It only works on specific phones, but there is a lot of them. I will try it out and let you know.

Lineage is pretty good. I've used it for years. There's options to remove most Google software from the phone, but it can sometimes be a chore to get some apps to work.

Make frequent backups of your phone. I've had mine start acting weird several times (unable to receive calls or texts, some apps just stop working) and only a reinstall fixed it.

Ones called graphite or graphine oc (something like that) or theres /e/ os ( e foundation) this doesn't support a lot of phones but the list is growing

Buy pinephone 64!!!!!

The hardware and OS are subpar but how can they improve without customers?

Do not buy a Pixel XL 2. I bought a cheap, used one to try out https://e.foundation on. Googles final update broke USB file transfer/ADB, so the bootloader can't be unlocked.

The PinePhone, Lbrem 5, Fairphone... all have a ways to go yet regarding Linux as a daily driver. If you have a Nexus 5 or a OnePlus One lying around, you can put UBPorts (Ubuntu touch) on them now and they work very well. The Pro1-X and the Cosmo Communicator are both new devices with qwerty hardware keyboards, both can run linux. Within Linux you can run "Anbox" which allows you to run Android apps... compatability is improving. If you want PC privacy, I'd recommend Qubes OS.

It was very fast and jittery and after 2 phone calls I had to go poop.

I just bought my kid his first phone. He requested a specific one, so he could change the OS on it.

Don't hang me if this isn't what you're looking for because I know way less about this stuff than I should, but there's the Blackphone.

Somebody needs to set up a business to set up Luddites like me with seriously secured tech. It has to be monkey proof. And I mean set up everything. Banking acct app, secure messaging and email services, help choosing a secure social media website and app...

Seriously, people would pay to have someone they trust choose and set up their phones and computers. Personally, that's a service that I'd happily pay $200 per phone for. $400 for a computer.

We want security, but we don't have the knowledge to avoid stepping on our own cranks.

A brief lesson in avoiding tracking and what NOT to do to screw it all up. (Like downloading FB or TicToc)

Time to bust out the Ham radios and morse code with an Enigma machine with extra wheels for our communications.

Hell, I'm fighting to figure out a reliable messenger system that doesn't spy and track. We like signal, but it's not always reliable about pics and images.
